MESSENGER COOKIE CO.

Logo redesign | Business card

After a recent move from California to Michigan, Sarah and Alex Messenger have been hard at work growing their business and pursuing their passion for crafting the best tasting (and looking!) sugar cookies around. However, as they evolved, the logo fell behind and no longer represented their business as well as it once had. A redesign was in order to get them ready for the summer season so they could hit the ground running.

Messenger Cookie Co. logo

The biggest change that needed to happen was removing the envelope icon and replacing it with something more appropriate, in this case, a piping bag. Originally, they wanted the business to be centered around shipping their handmade cookies and playing off their last name, Messenger. As time went on, their focus shifted from shipping their cookies to selling them in local stores and markets.

After seeing the cursive font in their old logo, I saw an opportunity to build off that and create a piece of lettering that looked as if it was spelled out using a piping bag. This approach would make the logotype much more representative of their business, as well as give Sarah a hands-on opportunity to directly contribute to their new logo! I found a base font for her to trace and she took it from there.

A primary mark, wordmark, and secondary mark were created for added versatility and easy application. The secondary mark, which features a rolling pin to showcase Alex’s role in the business, works great for cookie labels, stickers, and other uses where the logo doesn’t need to be shrunk down to small sizes. The piping bag, however, works great as a standalone mark and is ideal for small applications such as a favicon.

To top things off, we updated the secondary fonts and put them to use alongside their existing brand colors on new business cards and a banner that will be displayed in stores and at the farmers market. Nothing says cookie like a round business card!
