GRAND RAPIDS HOLIDAY SIP & SHOP

Logo | Website

The Grand Rapids Holiday Sip & Shop is a one-night-only shopping experience launching for the first time in December 2021. This curated, festive event will feature up to twenty-two local vendors who will be selling their handmade goods. The Sip & Shop aims to bring the community together while generating exposure and revenue for small businesses and artisans. In addition, they are partnering with Treetops Collective, a local nonprofit that works with New American women in the Grand Rapids area. With 2021 being the inaugural year, we set out to create a logo and website that could support this event for years to come.

It was decided early on in the process to make this logo primarily typography-based so it could be quickly and easily identified. We discussed taking a vintage midcentury approach while also sprinkling in a touch of farmhouse style. Those themes can be seen in the playful font choices as well as the snowflake elements that were so common in the 1950s. Not wanting to draw too much attention to the drinking aspect of the event, “sip” was tilted as a subtle nod to a drink being poured.

A secondary logo was created that also displays the date and time of the event. This would generally only be used for larger applications where legibility would not be an issue. It also displays the two full-color logo variations, one using the classic holiday red and green, and the other using a more modern turquoise and dark teal combination.

As with all logos, it was important that it would work in both black and white

The logo works just as great in black & white as it does in color

The last piece of the puzzle was creating a website to get this event up and running. They wanted to be able to update the site themselves without dealing with a bunch of tricky code, so Squarespace was a perfect choice. It’s mobile responsive and the ticket-buying software could be integrated right into the site. To keep everything consistent, colors from the logo were added to elements on the site such as buttons and the notification bar at the top of the page. The end result was an easy-to-use website that provided all the necessary information for its visitors.
