Twin Birch
Logo redesign
Located in Kalkaska, Michigan, and open to the public, Twin Birch is a must-visit destination for golfers and nature-lovers alike. And with summer fast approaching, it was time for a fresh look. My job was to update the current logo to reflect their growing business while preserving its most recognizable qualities.
Their current logo had become outdated and had the appearance of clipart. To bring this logo into modern day it was crucial to refine the forms, type, and overall layout of the logo. Utilizing the original deer, tree, and fish elements in the updated version allowed the new logo to still be identifiable as Twin Birch. With a golf course and restaurant on site and plans to expand into other areas, it was important not to focus on just one aspect of the business.
OLD
NEW
The updated typography replaces the art deco style of the previous logotype with an easy-to-read sans-serif typeface that is more representative of a modern business. Colors were altered only slightly with a lighter blue and the addition of two secondary colors that could allow for more flexibility in future designs.
deer
The deer represents the natural beauty that surrounds Twin Birch. Whether you’re out for a round or just taking a hike, the scenery and wildlife are sure to impress.
Leaf
The birch leaf replaced the birch tree from the original logo and is a call-back to the two huge birch trees that used to stand on the fairway, ultimately giving the business its name.
Fish
The fish represents not only the Boardman River that winds through the golf course, but also the Twin Birch restaurant, a great place to catch a meal after a round.
